Fong Named PCC’s Women's Volleyball Coach
Providence Christian proudly introduced Marvin Fong as the new head women's volleyball coach as the program enters its fourth season in the NAIA.
Fong is looking forward to the opportunity he's been given to lead the women's volleyball program at Providence. Coach Fong said, "Being at a Christian institution calls me to be a servant just as much or even more than a leader because all of us (players and coaches) are accountable to God for all that we do and accomplish here. Through the wins, losses, relationships built, and experiences shared, my prayer is that the program brings glory to Him."
Fong is an accomplished multi-sport athlete. Fong was a varsity wrestler and volleyball player at Rolling Hills High School. After high school, Fong was an Ironman triathlon finisher, nine-time Half Ironman finisher, two-time Boston Marathon finisher, and former President of the Pasadena Triathlon Club. After graduating from USC, Fong began his 12-year coaching career for boy's and girl's volleyball, starting at Arcadia High School as the boy's and girl's freshmen coach and later as the boy's and girl's JV coach, being mentored by Hall of Fame coach Charles Freeberg. He also has coached for the Forza1 VBC club volleyball team.
In 2019, Fong got the opportunity to start the new volleyball program at Monrovia High School and, after four seasons, his team won the CIF Southern Section Championship and the California State Regional Championship. Fong also started the boys beach volleyball program at Monrovia and is the founder and director of the Inland Boys Beach Volleyball League. Last fall he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Providence women's volleyball team.
"Coach Fong is a high energy and detail-oriented coach that desires to invest in the lives of young people," said PCC Director of Athletics Eddie Arnett. "He was a great addition to our staff this past year and I'm confident he will flourish as he steps into the role of head coach. I have full trust that our program will be in good hands and continue to grow under his leadership. Our young ladies will be developed on the court, pushed to thrive in the classroom, and have their hearts cultivated to grow ever closer to Christ. Welcome aboard Coach Fong!"
