Cal Pac Announces Players of the Week for March 4

The following California Pacific Conference student-athletes have been recognized as the conference Players of the Week for their performances during the period of Feb. 26 – March 3:

 

BASEBALL

Player of the Week

Drew Barragan of Embry-Riddle turned in a stellar performance to guide the Eagles to a four-game sweep of La Sierra.  The senior shortstop from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., collected 10 hits in 15 at bats, amassing 17 RBI in the four games.  He finished with seven doubles, a triple, and three stolen bases, giving him a .714 on base percentage and a slugging percentage of 1.267.

Pitcher of the Week

Saint Katherine's Owen Sideris pitched well enough to win before seeing his bullpen fall apart in the final inning.  In the series finale against Simpson, the sophomore from Huntington Beach, Calif., tossed eight innings of three-hit ball, walking just one and striking out six with the only run coming on a sacrifice bunt in the 8th.  He left the game with an 8-1 lead only to watch the Red Hawks plate nine runs in the 9th

SOFTBALL

Player of the Week

Emma Almodoba of Embry-Riddle was a hard out for Park-Gilbert this weekend as the junior outfielder went 8-for-8 during Friday's doubleheader, driving home nine runs.  The Tucson, Ariz., native also walked four times, giving her a batting average of .800, an on base percentage of .857, and a slugging percentage of 1.000.  She had ten total bases and two extra base hits.

Pitcher of the Week

Westcliff's Emily Rosas gets the nod a second consecutive week after she put up more impressive numbers in the circle.  The junior from Orange, Calif., held La Sierra to just one earned run in 29 Innings pitching, finishing the weekend series with four wins.  She allowed just 17 hits and struck out 30 as she posted a 0.24 ERA.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Attacker of the Week

Dapre Rogers of Benedictine Mesa repeats as the top Cal Pac hitter after leading the Redhawks to two wins in three matches last week—the only loss coming on the road at No. 6 Ottawa (Ariz.).  A senior middle blocker from Tempe, Ariz., Rogers finished the week with 24 kills (4.00 per set) and a .404 hitting percentage.  He also had six digs and five block assists on the defensive side.

Setter of the Week

Michael Schoffstall of Westcliff came off the bench to play a big role in his team remaining undefeated in conference with a 4-0 record.  The sophomore outside hitter stepped in as the setter and recorded an impressive 111 assists (10.09 per set) and added five kills with no errors as well as a total of 14 blocks with 13 digs.

Defender of the Week

UC Merced's Jared Guglielmana has anchored a defense that has been vital in the Bobcats' 3-1 start in league play.  The senior outside hitter from Madera, Calif., helped his team go 2-1 last week, collecting 26 digs and a total of three blocks.  He also served up 21 kills.
