Cal Pac Names Players of the Week for Nov. 6

The following California Pacific Conference student-athletes have been recognized as the conference Players of the Week for their performances during the period of Oct. 30 – Nov. 5:

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Offensive Player of the Week

Jayla Reliford Park-Gilbert got off to a stellar start to the season, posting a triple-double against SAGU-AIC in the Bucs season opener.  The junior guard from New Hope, Minn., missed a quadruple double by two steals and did all of this in just 23 minutes of playing time.  She had 14 points, set a new career high and school record with 12 assists, and her 10 rebounds tied her career high.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Xavier Cooper of Saint Katherine played a big role in the Firebirds two wins to start the season.  The grad student from Denver, Colo., recorded back-to-back double-doubles, totaling 16 points and 10 rebounds in the opener and then 17 points, 14 boards, and eight assists in the second.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Attacker of the Week

Benedictine Mesa right side hitter Courtney Ely had a big week for the Redhawks, who took two matches from playoff teams.  The senior from Tucson, Ariz., delivered 18 kills over two matches, averaging 2.57 per set.  She also had eight block assists and five digs.

Setter of the Week

UC Merced's Bianca Malaluan averaged 8.1 assists, 2.5 digs, and 0.33 service aces per set in the final week of the regular season.  The senior from Hercules, Calif., turned in a career-best outing with 35 assists, 12 digs, two kills, and a service ace while running the offense to the season-best .405 success rate in a sweep over Pacific Union, her seventh double-double of the year.

Defender of the Week
Alexcis Morris of Saint Katherine was a huge factor in the Firebirds compiling a flawless 20-0 record.  The senior middle blocker from Menifee, Calif., was in on a total of 13 blocks, five solo and eight assisted, averaging 1.86 per set.  She also contributed 17 kills over two matches.
